When I look at the way emergencies unfold in Nigeria, one question always troubles me: how do we easily identify and assist victims when disasters strike? Whether it’s a road accident, kidnapping, fire outbreak, building collapse, domestic violence, or even medical emergencies, responders often struggle because of lack of proper identification and reliable data.
This gap has inspired me in my years of working on the Kaci Help project to design a system that doesn’t just talk about safety but actually creates a structured path to saving lives. Today, I want to share with you three of the most important features on the app, the Kaci Security Number (KSN), the Live Chat, and the Subscription model , why they exist, how they work, and how they can transform the way we respond to crises.
Kaci Security Number (KSN): A New Identity in Emergencies
When users sign up on the Kaci Help app, they use their active phone number and are verified via WhatsApp, SMS, or Email. After that, they go to their Profile Page where they complete their details, upload their picture, and select their current location. This is not just formality, it’s a matter of life and death in emergencies.
Two trusted Guardians must also be added. These are people you trust with your name, phone number, and email. In case of emergencies, they are the first point of contact Kaci will reach out to. Once this setup is complete, the app automatically generates your Kaci Security Number (KSN).
The KSN is unique to every user. You can find it on your Profile Page, just below your profile image, name, and location, highlighted in red text. This KSN is the backbone of the safety system I envisioned.
Why KSN is Important?
We live in a country where government data systems are not yet synchronized. In accidents, kidnappings, or other emergencies, responders often find it hard to identify victims, especially when they are unconscious or unable to speak.
Let me paint a few scenarios:
-
Accident: A bus crashes on the Abuja-Lokoja expressway. A victim is unconscious, no ID card found, and the phone is locked. Normally, the victim may remain unidentified for hours or even days. But if the person had written their KSN on a wristband or sticker on their phone, a responder could share that KSN with the Kaci Support Team. With proper verification, we can quickly trace the user’s Guardians and provide identification.
-
Kidnapping: Imagine someone abducted but managing to secretly send their KSN to a friend before their phone is taken. That friend can reach Kaci Support, and we can activate the Guardian system to verify and alert security operatives faster.
-
Fire Incident: During a fire outbreak in an apartment, an unresponsive victim is found. Emergency responders check their belongings and find a wallet sticker with their KSN. This becomes the bridge to connect them to their loved ones.
-
Medical Emergency: Someone collapses in public due to a health condition. People around may not know who they are. But a wristband with KSN or a written code in their bag can help connect them to their Guardians immediately.
I always tell users, don’t just keep your KSN in the app. Write it down outside your phone. Put it on a wristband, wallet sticker, car dashboard, backpack tag, or even keyholder. In those crucial moments, visibility is everything.
Live Chat: Real-Time Communication That Saves Lives
The Activity Page is another critical area on the app. By clicking “Activity” (the third option on the bottom menu), users can see a history of all their requests, Emergency, Consultation, Ambulance, TravelSafe, iReport, Suggestion, and Feedback.
Now, imagine that you’ve placed an emergency request. In some situations, responders may need more details or clarification. This is where the Live Chat comes in.
Through Live Chat, users can directly communicate with support staff, emergency responders, or even Guardians, depending on the case. For example:
-
In a kidnapping, you may not be able to talk, but you can type a quick message that provides a location clue.
-
In a fire incident, you can send pictures to responders showing the exact location of the flames.
-
In a road accident, you can quickly update responders if the situation worsens or if you’ve moved from one location to another.
However, Live Chat is a premium feature that requires an active Subscription. Why? Because running Live Chat means real humans are on the other side, 24/7, ready to respond. And that requires resources.
Why Subscription Matters on Kaci Help
Many people ask me, “Temitope, why do we need to pay to use some features? Isn’t this supposed to be a free app?”
Here’s the honest answer: sustainability.
Running Kaci Help is not cheap. Every time you sign up, reset a password, or trigger an emergency, the app sends notifications via SMS, WhatsApp, and Email, not only to you but also to your Guardians. Each of these costs money.
Beyond that, we have staff, support agents who answer calls and chats, developers who maintain the platform, designers who improve the user experience, and servers that keep everything running. Without subscriptions, this system cannot survive long-term.
How Subscription Works
We have two main models:
-
Online Subscription
Accessible via www.kaci.help/sub. Users can subscribe monthly to unlock premium features like Live Chat, higher request limits, and faster response times. -
Manual Kaci Code
This is generated by the Kaci Admin and distributed manually. It is mostly used by organizations, NGOs, or kacians who want to support people at scale. For instance, a company may buy 500 Kaci Codes for its employees to ensure workplace safety.
Subscription Tiers
Subscriptions are divided into free and paid levels, with limits on the number of requests per 30 days. This prevents spam, repeated fake emergencies, and overload on the system. By capping requests, we make sure genuine cases are prioritized and handled with the urgency they deserve.
The Bigger Picture: A Safety Culture for All
When I think about KSN, Live Chat, and Subscription together, I see a new safety net being built. This is not just about technology but about creating a culture of preparedness.
-
With KSN, every user carries a unique identifier that makes emergency response faster and more accurate.
-
With Live Chat, communication becomes instant, breaking barriers of silence and confusion during crises.
-
With Subscription, the app becomes sustainable, ensuring continuity of service for years to come.
Kaci Help is more than an app. It’s a vision of a society where no emergency victim goes unidentified, unheard, or unsupported.
Conclusion
I have spent over five years pouring myself into this project, and sometimes I wonder how I’ve managed to keep going. It has drained me financially, emotionally, and mentally. But when I think of the lives that can be saved, the accident victims identified, the kidnapped child traced, the fire victim reunited with their family, I know it’s worth it.
We may not yet have perfect government data systems in Nigeria, but with tools like the Kaci Security Number, the Live Chat, and our Subscription model, we are building a bridge that ensures help is always closer, faster, and smarter.
That is the heart of Kaci Help. That is why I keep going.
